Rice paddy is the representative place of methane emission. In particular, according to theirrigation of the rice paddies are a major concern is the observation of methane emission. In Asia, intermittent irrigation/drainage practice is applied to maximize rice production whileminimizing water consumption and methane emission. In this study, using eddy covariancetechnique, we report methane fl ux measurement from a rice paddy whichis managed withsuch a practice. In addition, we discuss some diffi culties encountered in the application ofeddy covariance method in conjunction with laser spectroscopy such as fi eld operation, dataprocessing and gap-fi lling of the missing data.
