The peat swamps are often located in water saturated areas. Draining them of of excesswater is necessary to make them cultivable. The depth to water table ideal for food cropsis20-30 cm below the soil surface. The study aims to determine the effect of water table controlon the reduction of carbon emissions and on I ncreasing the potential for higher croppingintesity. The study was conducted in the Delta Berbak reclaimed tidal areas of Tanjung JabungTimur Jambi Province Indonesia. Data were collected from May to October 2012. Control ofwater table in tertiary block was done by tertiary gate operation. Results showed that tertiarygate operation restricted the water table was rise from an average of -46.53 cm to -22.7 cmbelow the soil surface. Control of water table by the tertiary gate operations makes the landcultivable and can reduce CO2 emissions of 41.7 tonnes / ha / year to 20.5 tonnes CO2 / ha/ year. Under tertiary gate operation the Water table depth can be maintained at 20-30 cmbelow soil surface so that the soil surface still remains moinst and could prevent fi re hazard.
