In the concept of Smart Grid (SG), reliable and real-time information becomes the key factors. Usually, the alternatives for data acquisition are based on proprietary solutions for dedicated systems using wired communication, cables and various kinds of sensors. The installation and maintenance of these systems are usually much more expensive than the cost of the sensors themselves. An alternative is using wireless sensor networks, which are driven by low cost, low power and multifunctional sensor nodes over a limited distance. This communication presents two quite significant problems: (1) energy consumption (battery lifetime); and (2) interference (data loss). This paper focus in evaluate efficient tests for wireless communication. In this way, identifying the most suitable for selecting wireless transceivers applied for Intelligent Electronic Devices (IED) in the Smart Grid concept.
