In India, Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) is the major cooking fuel option in most of the urban and rural places and across all the quintiles. But the Indian government's recent decision to limit the number of subsidized cylinders, increasing trend of price hike and non-renewable nature of LPG has posed a question mark about the reliability of this source. This paper throws a light on the reasons behind prices changes of LPG and its possible all round effects. The authors also tried to propose the model to reduce the ever increasing under recoveries of the OMCs and in terns government's, and divert the monetary benefits to the promotion and development of sustainable energy system. The paper also focuses on the government subsidy schemes and its socio economic impact on common people. The paper discusses the alternative solutions to substitute the use of LPG as a cooking fuel by the non conventional energy sources as Biogas and Solar energy, considering the potential, viable technologies and prospectus market growth in this regards in near future.
