Full Scale Performance of Mercury Control with a Non-Carbon Reagent

Amended Silicates is a novel, non-carbon based mercury reagent that features a natural mineral substrate, which provides several advantages. Among those are its concrete compatibility (demonstrated in earlier trials) and non-flammability. This material has been under development and testing for several years, and is now available in commercial quantities for field trials and contract sales. Novinda Corporation has recently conducted extensive full scale power utility plant trials on multiple configurations including several equipped with a variety of wet and dry scrubbers, pulse-jet bag houses and ESP's. The test results demonstrate Amended Silicates' full compatibility with a variety of NO_x, SO_2 and particulate control systems, delivering mercury capture sufficient to meet EPA's announced MATS emissions standards at cost-effective injection ratios. This paper discusses the trial configurations, tests, results, analysis and presents mercury capture performance for several coal-fired units.
