The environmental practices observed at China's paper mills are better than the required national standards - not just China's national standards, but often better than the standards set in Europe and North America as well. New, sophisticated technology allows China to combine plantations, pulp and paper in ways that are redefining the rules on sustainability. It is not too difficult to foresee a future where China's paper production is more sustainable than ours, fully surpassing our western standards.
