This paper will highlight how San Luis Obispo County is moving forward with a completely new sewer system in the community of Los Osos after nearly 30 years of anticipation. The sewer saga in Los Osos is the subject of much controversy and publicity including the book “Small Town Perfect Storm – The Los Osos Sewer Saga” by Barbara Wolcott. Additional aspects of the paper will address (a) how the County overcame all obstacles during planning and design to finally have a real project moving forward, (b) how costs came in at values less than anticipated, saving the residents money for the system, (c) how the design overcame challenges with existing soils and groundwater and (d) report on construction progress to date.
