Training of future physicians in public health issues has been recognized as an important component of medical education. This manuscript conducted a survey in the preventive medical students to get more definite information in developing a systematic curriculum and also the textbook for the Chinese medical students. Methods: A survey was disseminated to undergraduate medical students. 112 preventive medical students major in preventive medicine and public health management participated in our anouymous survey during 2010–2011. Frequencies, proportions, and odds ratios were calculated to assess requirement and awareness for health emergency curriculum in medical students. Results: Few students have ever participated in Health Emergency activities and seldom participated in any types of Health Emergency training previously. students showed the enthusiasm in welcoming a new course of Health Emergency, they supported the theory, Risk management, Field direction, Human Resource Construction, Surveillance, Materials Preparedness, Emergency Plan, Risk Communication, Evaluation of HE Event, Laboratory Management and HE response are important content for the new curriculum. more than 80% students thought it was very important or important to study by Case Discussion. And Group Discussion of Simulated Events and Simulation Exercises of HE Events were also widely welcomed. And one third of the students supported graduate the course by internship. Conclusions:. It is urgent to develop the HE curriculum in Chinese medical school and students are longing for it. And both the theoritical contents and internship content were very important in the new course.
