In this paper, the design of a novel F band pyramidal horn antenna based on Electromagnetic Band Gap structures (EBGs) is presented. Along with a symmetrical and directive radiation pattern the reported antenna possesses a wide operation frequency band. Being based on an EBG technology, the antenna is implemented as a complex hollow defect in a three-dimensional periodic dielectric structure and does not require metallic components. The latter makes it especially valuable for sub-millimetre and THz frequency range.
