Non-contact magnetic tomography method (MTM) is an effective non-de inspection technology used widely in recent years, which is good at the type definition and hazard assessment of corrosion defects, mechanical damage, crack-like defects, stress corrosion cracking and stress deformation for metal oil and gas pipeline. Based on the metal magnetostrictive effect and inspection method of the pipeline magnetic field stress, the principle and technical characteristics of MTM are discussed in the paper. Combining detecting process and results of this method, technical characteristics and the application ranges are analyzed together, this will provide direct reference and basis for oil &gas pipeline Integrity inspection and safety assessment.
