The Impact of Management Information Systems' Effectiveness on task Productivity, task Innovation, Customer Focus and Management Control The case of the Greek Banking Sector

Management of information technology plays a strategic role in building a competitive advantage, particularly in the banking sector which is based on reliability and information. This paper investigates the impact of Management Information Systems (MIS) effectiveness on task productivity, ta'sk innovation, customer focus and managerial control. The Competing Value Model (CVM) was adopted for the operationalization of MIS effectiveness, which defines four archetypes labelled as: open system (OS), human relations (HR), internal process (IP) and rational model (RM). The empirical findings from a survey of 186 employees in Greece revealed that a) the externally focused MIS effectiveness archetypes (OS, RM) reflecting innovation, creativity, goal setting and planning enhance customer focus, task innovation and productivity work metrics, b) the HR archetype facilitating flexibility, morale, teamwork and commitment strengthens task innovation and management control and c) the IP model of MIS effectiveness influences positively managerial control and negatively task productivity and innovation.
