In geographic routing for Ad hoc Networks,nodes need to maintain up-to-date positions of their immediate one-hop neighbors for making effective forwarding decisions.Periodic broadcasting of beacon packets that contain the geographic position coordinates of the nodes is a popular method to maintain neighbor list.But periodic beacon exchange scheme that contain the geographic position coordinates of the nodes regardless of network mobility and traffic pattern brings temporary communication blindness (TCB) problem.To address this problem,we propose a Adaptive Beacon Exchange (ABE) algorithm for geographic routing.We embedded ABE into the well known Greedy Perimeter Stateless Routing Protocol (GPSR),and compare it with original GPSR in the ns-2 simulation platform.The results show that ABE significantly mitigates the TCB problem and acquires high packet success delivery ratio without introducing into more routing overhead.
