High-speed computing and advanced finite element procedures provide the capability of detailed analysis of cable structures. However, deterministic analysis requires considerable time and effort which are difficult to justify in common engineering practice, and simplified rational methods are very useful to structural designers. This article demonstrates how stochastic approaches can be employed to determine the nonlinear dynamic response of cable roof structures to wind through frequency domain analysis combined with nonlinear static analysis. The proposed method is illustrated with two examples and the results are compared with those of a detailed nonlinear finite element analysis in the time domain.
