With increasing size and complexity of machines and vessels, the inverse problems of continuous bodies are becoming important. In this paper the possibility of using a resopnse surface methodology, which consists of a design of experiments, for estimating the critical flutter load of the double-beam is studied. An analysis is presented for the vibration and stability of a non-uniform double-beam subjected to tangential follower forces distributed over the center line by use of the transfer matrix approach.
