PROJECT MANAGEMENT AND ITS APPLICATION ON TRENCHLESS PROJECTS WITHIN THE CITY OF EDMONTON, ALBERTA, CANADA

The City of Edmonton is one of the leading municipalities in North America,if not the only,for its use of very innovative Trenchless practices through the expertise of its in-house construction force as well as its contracted services.Edmonton has an intensive network of well planned and laid out storm,sanitary and sewer systems that have been built over the last century through innovative trenchless practices. Construction of such successful projects requires the need to incorporate project management tool and techniques at different phases of a given project. The main project management techniques include scope definition and structuring; time management; budgetary planning; physical progress measurement; performance measurement; and trend analysis and forecasting. The use of these techniques requires the need to undertake certain approaches and tools to achieve suitable control criteria.This paper will integrate the knowledge areas of Project Management and showcase the techniques that can be used to control project work and the tools that are available to support those techniques with respect to trenchless projects in the City of Edmonton. This presentation will be supplemented by means of a case study.
