High-impedance faults are very difficult to be detected and isolated because of the negligible fault current and intermittent process. This paper proposes a fault identification method of intermittent high-impedance faults based on transient power direction detection and intermittency detection. The detailed procedure of HIF identification method, which is developed for grounded distribution networks, is also clarified. In order to test the performance of the proposed method, both Peterson model and Peterson-Slepian model of HIF arc are established in EMTP. The results show the practical value of fault identification method considering its technical support for HIF detection and isolation.
