This paper presents a novel terminal sliding mode control for DC-DC buck converters. Since buck converters have high nonlinearity and uncertainty, a terminal sliding mode controller (TSMC) is proposed to achieve robust output voltage tracking. Different from traditional sliding mode control, a terminal sliding surface is introduced to assure finite convergent time of control errors on the surface. Furthermore, if the upper bound of uncertainty is known, the overall controlled system yields finite-time convergent stability. When considering highly unknown uncertainty, an adaptive fuzzy TSMC is derived to guarantee high robustness. In addition, this controller is implemented by a PSoC (Programmable system on chip) and results in expected performance.
