Possible Tradable Green Certificate Systems for Promoting Green Electricity in Shanghai

An arrangement of Tradable Green Certificates (TGC) as a market-based subsidy for renewable energy has been proposed in several countries and already implemented in a few. However, introduction of TGCs have been postponed and delayed mainly due to the uncertainties involved for suppliers of renewables. As the first city in China that has introduced green electricity mechanism, there are many problems in current mechanism. To introduce the TGCs system will overcome the obstacles faced by renewable energy sector in Shanghai.
