Fluorination was carried out in order to increase the capacity of hydrogen storage based on multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs). The effects of fluorination condition and various kinds of MWCNTs were investigated for obtaining the optimized condition of hydrogen storage. The capacity of hydrogen storage was improved through fluorination with generating the channel from outside wall to inside. It is suggested that some structure of MWCNTs would be destroyed by fluorination treatment. The degree of destroyed structure of MWCNTs depends on the pressure, reaction time and temperature. Considering the proper kind of MWCNTs, the wall number of MWCNTs was around 3-4, because the outside wall could be destroyed severely meaning not any more the storage space. The optimized inner diameter was about 0.7 nm. Eventually, the capacity of hydrogen storage was improved up to 1.4 wt%.
