Hydrogen storage is a key enabling technology for the extensive use of hydrogen as an energycarrier. Particularly for automotive applications, the development of high pressure hydrogentanks is facing a growing interest. Vessels exhibit an inner liner, to ensure gas barrier property,and a fiber-based composite shell, to meet safety and mechanical issues.Since more than a decade, CEA is involved in the development of innovative polymers suitablefor reactive rotational moulding. Remarkable results were obtained on polyamide-6 type gradesparticularly within the European STORHY project. Since 2005, CEA has started to investigatethe rotomoulding of thermosets. This paper reviews the most recent technical and scientificachievements gathered in an in-depth study focused on a chemorheological approach ofpolyurethane rotational moulding This study aims to develop a new generation of polymer liner(type IV) focusing on hydrogen barrier performance, thermomechanical behaviour and industrialprocessability.. Ex-situ and in-situ results correlation is presented to access a completeunderstanding of the irreversible reactive forming process.
