Forcible Wedging of Mighty Culture:Interpretation on the Campus Space and Historical Architecture of University of Shanghai

摘要

The Chinese Christian University was essential component of modern cultural exchange between China and the Western. Its cultural importance and social effect have gone far beyond the use vale of the architecture. The Western missionaries took architectures as a kind of object of cultural reference and imported their architectural form into China while introducing western culture. This paper takes University of Shanghai as an example, combine the special social cultural background in the early 20th century and the Christian university's educational ideas, analyzing its particular spatial form as well as the cause of formation of the historical architecture style.
