The NanoSatC-BR will be the first Brazilian CubeSat. It is a cooperation between the Southern Regional Space Research Center, (CRS), from the Brazilian National Institute for Space Research - INPE/MCT with the Federal University of Santa Maria - LACESM/CT-UFSM, in Santa Maria, RS, South of Brazil, in collaboration with other Brazilian and International Institutions. The general management and PI are at CRS. The project technical supervision -subsystems, design, analysis, ground operations, sensors, mission and payload specification is jointly made by engineers and scientists from INPE's headquarter (HQ) and from the CRS. The UFSM participates with its students and faculty members. The mission major payload consists of a magnetometer to measure the Earth Magnetic Field at the South Atlantic Magnetic Anomaly (SAMA) and the Brazilian Ionosphere Equatorial Electrojet. Subsystems such as structure, thermal control, power supply, attitude control, and on-board software (for attitude control, data handling, electronic subsystems, and TMTC), has been developed by INPE and UFSM staff with the participation of undergraduate students. Ground operation at the CRS will have technical supervision from the Satellite Tracking Center at the INPE's HQ. Launch is planed for the end of 2009,2010.
