The mixed cobalt cerium oxide catalysts supported by SiO2, which were prepared using different methods such as, co-precipitation, impregnation, sol-gel and fusion, were investigated and all the prepared catalysts were applied in the synthesis of fuels especially light olefins fuels from CO and H_2. The effect of a range of operation conditions variable such as the temperature and H_2/CO molar feed ratio on the catalytic activity and selectivity of all different prepared Co-Ce catalysts were studied. The results are interpreted in terms of the preparation methods and operation conditions. Characterizations of both precursors and catalysts were carried out using x-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), BET and thermal analysis methods such as TGA and DSC. Comparison of catalytic properties in the catalysts prepared by different methods show that the preparation method strongly influences the catalytic performance during hydrogenation of CO to light olefins fuels.
