The day lighting performance of a side-lit room exposed to different degree of obstruction and equipped with horizontal light pipe (HLP) system integrated with laser cut panels (LCP) as a collector and extractor was studied in a dense urban environment under the CIE clear sky condition by computer simulation. It is observed that by properly varying the separation-to-thickness ratio (STR) and the aperture tilt angle (ATA) of the LCP collector, illumination improvement, expressed in terms of the relative illuminance (RI), beneath the pipe emitter can be obtained for a room equipped with HLP as compared to the room without HLP. With suitable setting, RI in the ranges of 2-4 and 4-9 can be obtained with and without direct sunshine on the pipe aperture respectively.
