Dialectical Analysis on the Human Development Index

摘要

Since the comprehensive meaning of development,the measurement of development is not an easy task. To overcome the shortcomings of the GDP per capita,the human development index (HDI) is widely used as a satisfactory measurement of development. Stemmed from the human-centered development,the HDI is based on three essential aspects of development,namely longevity,education and decent living standard. Based on a deep investigation of the meaning,construction and criticisms of the HDI,this paper points out the HDI is probably the best measurement of development available. Meanwhile this paper proposes the policy implications of HDI.
