Supported liquid membrane extraction of 99mTc (VII) in a hollow fibre contactor wasinvestigated in this study. Technetium in a form of pertechnetate was extracted in the three phase system,from the acidic donor solution through the organic phase placed in the membrane pores and than to thealkaline acceptor solution. Tri-n-octylamine was applied as a selective extractant for the separation oftechnetium from molybdenum. Donor solution flowed continuously through fibre in either once-through orrecirculation mode of operation. The acceptor solution was pumped counter-currently at the shell side ofthe contactor. The influence of donor and acceptor flow rate on the extraction and re-extraction of 99mTc(VII) was studied. The experimental results are discussed in terms of the fraction of 99mTc (VII) removedfrom the donor phase and mass transfer coefficient. The results can be used for the design of a hollow fibrecontactor based extraction process that can be utilized for the alternative production of technetium isotopesusing cyclotrons.
