The concentration control of alumina (Al_2O_3) is very important for pot performance. The Al_2O_3-content is related to - among other things - the properties of the alumina, the process of dissolution, the resistance of bath among other things. By the development of high alumina concentration control, and keeping the alumina content in the range of 1.5-2.5%, the AE coefficient can be lower then 0.1 AE/pot/day. The control for bath temperature, superheat, bath ratio and pot voltage has to be more refined. The purpose for this is increasing current efficiency (CE) and reducing energy consumption. CE can be kept over 94% and DC energy consumption can as low as 13300 kwh/t al. Pot performance will be stable with long pot life.
