Distributed generation of electricity, close to the users, can improve the security of supply, reduce the system losses and increase fuel efficiency. Local power plants with multiple, modular, generators running in parallel have a very high reliability and high fuel efficiency, irrespective of their load. Moreover, such power plants are very flexible in size, allowing fast adaptations in power when the local demand increases rapidly. With this new approach, the fuel efficiency of the supply system can easily increase from the current 31% to at least 43%. That is an improvement in fuel efficiency of almost 40%. Next to that, the security of supply will be an order of 10 better.
