Online examinations in an academic environment: a case study at Charles Sturt University

This work examines quality and workload issues involved in the design and implementation of online examinations in a set of postgraduate information technology courses. It reports on the processes that led to the initial efforts to undertake this endeavour at Charles Sturt University, one of the leading distance education providers in Australia and a university that has partner campuses in nearly 30 countries around the world. It discusses the opportunities that exist to make changes to the examination process which, in the medium term, so radically alter it, that it is unrecognisable from its predecessors, yet deliver a pedagogically more acceptable and an administratively more efficient product.
