ISO 9000:2000 IMPLEMENTATION IN A REFRACTORY PLANT

The International Standard for Quality Management Systems (ISO 9000) has been completely revised and has an entirely different look. Companies currently registered according the 1994 standard have a maximum of three years to adjust their Quality System to meet the revised standard. Companies in the early stages of the registration process should consider the new 2000 version as their guideline. Our company recently embarked on an ambitious program of certifying our overseas plants according to the new ISO 9000:2000 standard within one year. The proposed Paper will focus on the certification process at one of these plants. The process will be described from beginning to end--that is, from the decision to attempt certification to the end result. We will also explain the reasoning that led us to the decision to certify our plants. Finally, we will include an analysis of the new standard and the economical, technical and cultural aspects of the process as well as the difficulties encountered and the techniques used to solve problems.
