摘要

In the present work reaction between silicon metal and different type of carbons has been studied. The temperature dependence for the formation of nitrides, oxy-nitrides and carbides has been studied. The effect of particle size of starting materials with respect to formation of nitrides and carbides at different firing temperature has been investigated. A co-relation has been drawn between the formation of nitride and carbide with the thermo-mechanical and pyro-cheimcal properties of Al_2O_3-C. Al_2O_3-C slide plates were manufactured on the basis of mis investigation, which has given superior performance.
