A progressive scheme for biomedical image compression using variable order wavelets transforms and HVS characteristics

We propose a progressive compression scheme for medical images. Our approach is based on subband coding by wavelet filters and uses a quantification method based on the human vision characteristics. Each step of the proposed compression scheme has been optimized and results are presented for a CT brain image.
