The wealth effects of global acquisition announcements by Canadian banks

This study investigates the stock market reactions to acquisition announcements of wealth management targets by Canadian banks between January 1998 and June 2001. Our findings indicate that in wealth management the foreign acquisitions created shareholder value while domestic targets did not. Thus, globalization may offer additional value in banking.
