BUILDING VIRTUAL ENVIRONMENTS FOR TRAINING OF HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS

Simulation training for health care professionals is a must. If one is to be found in charge of a life-or-death situation, one wants to get as close as possible to a real thing during his training period. This can be provided by simulation exercises using medical simulators. But with the development of the virtual reality (VR) technologies parts of such training can now be transferred into the virtual environments. In this paper we are tackling some design issues for a VR system for crisis management training in neonatal resuscitation. We list the state variables of a baby avatar and interpretations of its vital signs we want to model in the system. The aim of our project is also to explore potentials and limitations of the current VR technologies in creating virtual worlds acting as medical simulators.
