Assessing the maintenance in the UK water industry: A case study

In developing any successful maintenance strategy it is important to be able to estimate the rate of occurrence of maintenance events. There are advantages in using a semi-parametric approach in such analysis. Such an approach has been applied to the Water Industry. The case study illustrates the effectiveness of the approach taken especially to field data, giving insight into the underlying processes. In particular the impact of maintenance on the system can be assessed. With such assessment the value of maintenance strategies can be evaluated. The paper considers some of the practical issues associated with applying the technique to field data.
