Poly(acrylstarch) microparticles have been shown to be a promising adjuvant in oral vaccination capable to induce a local as well as systemic humoral and cellular immune responses (Degling and Stjaernkvist, 1995). The microparticle-antigen complex is supposed to be degraded in the gastrointestinal tract into various sized particulates, which may be taken up by M-cells of the Peyer's patches known to engulf macromolecules and small particles (Seifert et al., 1983).
