The various resin coated steel sheets have been widely used for automobile body applications. Automobile outer panel requires high cosmetic corrosion resistance, good formability and welding property. The fuel tank material is especially required high corrosion resistance and welding property. While the corrosion resistance of pure resin coated steel is good, the welding property is no so good due to poor conductivity of resin layer. The mixture of metal powder and resin has newly been developed to improve weld ability by POSCO. The static contact resistance was evaluated by contact resistance measurement system to find out the welding property of the resin coated steel sheet. The corrosion properties were measured by salt spray test and fuel corrosion resistance test. The dispersed metal powder in the resin layer played a role in improving conductivity of resin layer. The welding property of the resin coated steel sheet increased with the addition of metal powder in resin layer, but the corrosion resistance decreased in case of irregular dispersion of metal powder in resin layer.
