Since space commercialization evolved as a serious issue for the whole space community, financing as a major success factor of related projects will be a prime challenge for the future. The paper elaborates on the evolution of the space sector towards commercial business and focuses on the increasing demand for dedicated early-stage equity finance. In order to stress on particular venture capital-related issues, a brief introduction to new business creation and financing of new ventures for space engieners will be given, followed by a big picture of venture capital. Key findings to be addressed by the space community have been summarized in a list of current lacks and some action items will be recommended. Basing on experiences in dealing with early-stage venture capital for high-tech growth companies, with the financial community and the space sector, a concept of "spacialized" venture capital has been developed to foster space commercialization by supporting the creation of new commercial space businesses. This project of an international venture capital fund for space and space-related ventures, called "IGNITION SpaceVentures" will be presented.
