The authors present a handwritten character recognition methodalong with experiments that were conducted on a system developed to testthis method's feasibility. This method can be applied to both online andoffline input. Under this method the matching of characters is based ona dynamic model and performed using a relaxation method. A potentialfield is created to represent the dictionary character. Into this aredropped feature points taken from the input character and matching takesplace. Matching thus occurs with the input character distorting to matchthe dictionary character. Springs are used to control this distortion.Details of variations to this method are given, and the results ofcomparative experiments conducted on these variations arepresented
