A relatively new device called the klystrode to be used in UHF-band TV-system transmitters appeared on the market in the 1990's. Owing to its high efficiency, linearity, reliability, and relatively low dimensions, klystrodes have come into wide use as high-power output amplifiers for UHF-band TV transmitters (470-860 MHz). The major manufacturer of klystrodes today is EEV. The promising features of klystrodes for TV-transmitters make designers search for new ways of improving their parameters. During 1995 to 1998, SRPC "ISTOK" experts using a 25-year experience of development and manufacture of microwave multiple-beam devices (klystrons and TWTs) created a new design of a high-power klystrode, i.e. a multiple-beam klystrode. The multiple-beam design opens up a new opportunity for further improvement of the klystrode parameters by reducing the operating voltage and increasing the total current.
