Abstract: The frequency domain support of wideband syntheticaperture radar data is nonrectangular and exhibitssidelobe artifacts in noncardinal directions. LeakageEnergy Minimization (LEM) is an analytic image domainapodization scheme that has been successfully appliedto SAR imagery. LEM uses a spatially varying finiteimpulse response filter, the coefficients of which areselected from a maximum likelihood criterion. LEM canbe applied to wideband SAR data, which has anirregularly shaped frequency domain support. Thealgorithm successfully reduces the sidelobe artifactswithout loss of resolution.!6
