Bridge to a sustainable future

In July, 1994, Vice President Al Gore released the report Technology for a Sustainable Future. The report resulted from an interagentcy effect under the auspices of the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC). In each of ten critical policy areas, the participants who prepared the report considered where federal govemment action could encourage new partnerships that would facilitate the development of U.S. environmental technology products and services. The report initiated a national outreach process that has featured participation by a wide range of individuals from industry, state and local governments, academia an dthe American public. Obver 30 workshops across the nation contributed to the understanding of what new plicy actions could be formulated to insure that American environmental technology is dominant in the global market. In December of 1994, a White House Conference was held in Washington. DC where a total of 1200 participants joined Cabinet members and the Vice-President to prepare specific strategic elements that would constitute a National Strategy.
