We have developed the low supply voltage Voltage Controlled SAW Oscillator (VCSO) for high-speed optical communication equipment. A one-port quartz SAW resonator is used to minimize the temperature drift. We use a varactor and a serial inductor to get the wide pulling frequency range. The total frequency stability less than /spl plusmn/100 ppm is achieved, and the pulling frequency range is greater than /spl plusmn/250 ppm. Its volume is 8.5 mm high, 31 mm wide, and 28 mm long. We also developed the PLL module using this VCSO. This module generates the 155.52 MHz sine wave signal which is synchronized to the input 19.44 MHz signal. The custom PLL LSI is used to achieved the small size and low power consumption. The pull in range is greater than /spl plusmn/100 ppm. Its volume is 8.5 mm high, 41 mm wide and long. This paper shows the external view of the VCSO and the PLL module. The miniature coaxial connector is used for the oscillator output, and small pin-terminals are used for the other connection. These VCSO and PLL module can be mounted directly to Printed Circuit Board.
