Abstract: For a given light and photosensitizer dose the degree of reaction of a tissue after photodynamic therapy (PDT) with tetra(meta-hydroxyphenyl)chlorin (mTHPC) shows large differences from one patient to another. This can be explained by variation of the photosensitizer (PS) concentration in the tissue of interest and can lead to undertreatment of the lesion and overtreatment of the surrounding normal tissue. A better prediction of the degree of reaction can be obtained by taking into account the drug concentration measured by light induced fluorescence (LIF) and by adjusting the light dose consequently. !9
