The US Dept. of Energy's Component Development and Integration Facility (CDIF) is responsible for the integration of topping cycle components for the national coal-fired magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) development program. A 50 MW/sub t/, pressurized, slag-rejecting, coal-fired combustor (CFC) is used. Recently, a coal-fired precombustor (CFPC) was added. Testing focused on CFC second-state oxygen injector position checkout, Faraday testing, 100% slag carryover configuration, and CFPC checkout. The test results and facility upgrades and modifications made during the CFPC installation shutdown are discussed. Performance and development of the 1A test train hardware at the CDIF and the service history of MSE's nozzle are described. The status of diagnostic and hardware development testing in the diffuser is discussed, and some test results and various developmental hardware designs are presented.
