There is high interest among broadcasters andRF network operators to reduce their overall transmissionfacility cost of ownership. The Total Cost of Ownership(TCO) includes much more than the initial cost, energyconsumption, and maintenance of the transmissionequipment. The acquisition, maintenance, operating, andtraining costs of all the other required systems in thetransmission facility must also be considered to arrive atlowest TCO. This paper investigates a new evaluationprocess and analysis tool to design a transmission facilityfor lowest TCO. Besides the reduction in direct operatingcosts, the benefits of reduced TCO include a reduction ofcarbon footprint in support of green technology. Thecomprehensive analysis includes the tradeoffs between airand liquid cooling system impact on the overall facility, floor space requirements, size, and the thermal efficiency ofthe transmitter building.
