Reducing Supply Chain Cost Vulnerability using a Resilient Strategy: Malaysian Hypermarket Retail Perspective

Hypermarket retailers developed strategies that integrate a variety of factors including assortment, store atmosphere, price, and service interface in order to create a desirable shopping experience that may lead to increase in sales. To minimize the supply chain disruption which had caused high supply chain costs in hypermarket, the objectives of this study, firstly is to identify the factors that influences the supply chain cost vulnerability, secondly to identify the resilient strategies to sustain the long-term profitability and finally to determine the exact mitigation and resilient strategies of cost reduction in hypermarket retailer. A quantitative approach employed in order to obtain the data through survey from 143 outlets involving hypermarket retailers. The result revealed a significant correlation between knowledge and supply chain risk to improve the performance and sustainability hypermarket retail business. However, the other two variables, forecasting and procurement sourcing showed insignificant result towards improve the performance and sustainability hypermarket retail business. The findings contributed to the resilient strategy in reducing supply chain cost vulnerability.
