These results suggest that the controlled release corticosteroid micro-pellets appear to be safe and effective in preserving hearing from trauma induced by cisplatin and the implantation of cochlear implant electrodes. Additionally, the lack of hearing loss from the implantation event and presence of the micro-pellet in the cochlea suggest the safety of the materials, drug and methods used in the studies. Collectively, these results demonstrate the potential of our drug delivery system to be safely utilized in the clinic in the near future.
