Nano HA powder was used as a mechanical and biological reinforcement for enhancing the mechanical properties and the in vitro biocompatibility of PLA polymer. The porous PLA/HA scaffolds with various HA contents were successfully produced via FDM based 3D printing technique. For all PLA/HA composites, the HA powders were well dispersed in the PLA matrix and did not show any pronounced agglomeration. Fabricated porous PLA/HA scaffolds by 3D printing process had uniform structure showed good cellular response. Our results show that PLA/HA composite scaffold is a potential alternative to existing polymer-based implant materials.
