This work proposes a compartment shielding method for the fifth-generation (5G) radio frequency (RF) systems. In this method, a small capacitive impedance surface is vertically placed in a shielding box as a diaphragm. Benefitting from the large phase shift on the capacitive impedance surface, it would introduce strong transverse resonance and exhibit a good shielding performance with only half height of the package. The simulation results show that this approach realizes above 10 dB shielding effectiveness (SE), covering two of the 5G working bands (24.5-27.5 GHz and 26.5-29.5 GHz). This method is helpful for reducing the size of conventional diaphragms and releasing design space in the miniaturized systems.
